The Administrative Services Division is responsible for the bureau's budget, fees, internal controls, personnel oversight, performance reporting, document management, promulgation of administrative rules, legislation, grants, publication of the bureau's newsletter, training approvals, freedom of information requests, and providing administrative support to the bureau's administrative staff and 11 boards and commissions.

Boiler Division

The Boiler Division is responsible for the administration and enforcement of the Michigan Boiler Code which includes conducting inspections of boiler installations and repairs and in-service inspections of existing boilers. The division also investigates boiler accidents and violations of the Michigan Boiler Code and assures proper boiler permits have been issued.

The Building Division is responsible for the administration and enforcement of the Michigan Building Code and the structural provisions within the Michigan Residential Code by performing inspections and issuing certificates of occupancy. The division also follows up on violations of the Michigan Building Code and assures proper building permits have been issued.

The Elevator Safety Division is responsible for the administration and enforcement of the Michigan Elevator Code by conducting inspections of elevator installations and alterations as well as annual safety inspections. The division also investigates elevator accidents and violations of the Michigan Elevator Code and assures proper elevator permits have been issued.

The Licensing Division is responsible for determining eligibility of examinees, licensure and registration issuance, and renewals of registrations and licenses under the purview of the bureau. The division is also responsible for annual inspections of mobile home parks, the delegation of plan review and inspection authority for schools, processing applications to administer and enforce the code, and processing requests for assistance from local enforcing agencies. The status of a license can be checked at: https://aca3.accela.com/lara/

The Mechanical Division is responsible for the administration and enforcement of the Michigan Mechanical Code and the mechanical provisions of the Michigan Residential Code by conducting inspections of mechanical equipment and installations. The division also follows up on violations of the Michigan Mechanical Code and assures proper mechanical permits have been issued.

The Office of Land Survey and Remonumentation (OLSR) ensures an orderly and consistent review of subdivision plats, conducts final review of subdivision plats, administers the statewide program of monumenting and remonumenting the original U.S. government public land survey corners, reviews petitions for the State Boundary Commission, and affixes mobile homes to real property.

The Permits Division is responsible for issuing boiler, building, electrical, elevator, mechanical, and plumbing permits. Permits can be obtained expeditiously online at: https://aca3.accela.com/lara/

Plan Review Division

The Plan Review Division is responsible for the review of boiler, building, electrical, elevator, mechanical, plumbing, and manufactured housing community plans and all Barrier Free Design exception requests. The division also reviews premanufactured plans and compliance assurance manuals.
