Elevator Examination Schedule, Licensing Information and Applications

NOTICE: Elevator Examinations will be conducted through PSI Starting June 1, 2016.

Once your application is approved for an examination you will be notified by a third party testing agency (PSI) with instructions on how to schedule your examination. All examination fees will be paid to PSI at that time. Please do not send in payment with your application.

Application for Elevator Examinations

Qualifications for Elevator Journeyperson's License 

  • Three years of continuous employment as a supervisor of elevator construction or service, or as an elevator constructor, serviceman, maintenance man, or repairman. (Up to one year of credit may be provided for a degree in electrical or mechanical engineering from a recognized college or university.) **Attach detailed resume outlining specific detailed work experience.
  • Must take and pass the examination.

 



Qualifications for Elevator Contractor's License 

  • Five years experience as an elevator constructor or journeyperson, or equivalent.
  • Must take and pass the examination.
  • Provide a detailed resume outlining specific detailed work experience.
  • A sworn affidavit must be provided with your application.


Qualifications for Elevator Certificate of Competency (C of C) 

General elevator inspector

  • Three years of experience in elevator construction.
  • Provide one or more written references certifying your experience in the elevator industry.
  • Pass the written and oral examination.


Special elevator inspector

  • Three years of experience in designing, installing, maintaining, or inspecting elevators.
  • Provide one or more written references certifying your experience in the elevator industry.
  • Pass the written and oral examination.
