Worker Safety Event at New Little Caesars Arena Highlights Fall Prevention
Worker safety and especially fall prevention were highlighted as the Barton Malow Company and the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA) partnered to hold a Stand Down for Fall Prevention event at the new Little Caesars Arena construction site where the Detroit Red Wings, Detroit Pistons and many of the world’s top entertainers will play. The event highlighted the importance of fall prevention as part of the National Safety Stand-Down to Prevent Falls in Construction. Along with National Safety Stand-Down week, which runs from May 8-12, Governor Rick Snyder also proclaimed the month of May, Workplace Falls Awareness Month in Michigan.
“Worker safety and health is paramount at MIOSHA and we are pleased to partner with Barton Malow to focus on the important message of fall prevention to their hundreds of employees and contractors involved in this large-scale project,” said MIOSHA Director Bart Pickelman. “This construction site is a great showcase on the significance of worker safety and it demonstrates the tremendous economic activity in the city of Detroit.
The event included remarks from MIOSHA Director Bart Pickelman, Tim Maguire and a fall protection equipment demonstration and training from Capital Safety.
“The Barton Malow, Hunt – White team has exhibited an unwavering commitment to safety from the start of this project,” said Tim Maguire, Safety Manager for Barton Malow, Hunt – White. “We are always ready to work with MIOSHA to help raise awareness on safer working habits.”
Falls continue to be a leading cause of fatalities for construction workers across the nation. These Stand-Down events are aimed at helping to educate and train employees and contractors on the correct way to utilize fall protection equipment to ensure safety on the job site.
MIOSHA will continue to partner with employers across the state to host stand-down events to reach as many Michigan workers as possible, and spread the message about the MIOSHA Stop Falls. Save Lives. campaign that focuses on fall prevention in the workplace.
