2012 College Preparatory Program

Who:      For individuals who are blind and visually impaired who would like to pursue a college education 

When:   June 28-August 17, 2012

Where: Western Michigan University's Kalamazoo campus

Why: 

· To give potential college students the opportunity to take a class for credit and find out what it's like to be a college student

· To encourage students by providing an opportunity to utilize and enhance their skills of independence prior to becoming a full-time college student

· To give students an opportunity to learn about themselves and make plans for their education

The Michigan Commission for the Blind (MCB) 2012 College Preparatory program is gearing up for another summer.  MCB's College Prep program is a summer program designed to provide students who are blind or visually impaired with an opportunity for a college experience prior to becoming full-time students.  Students will live on the campus of Western Michigan University for the Summer II semester (June 28 through August 17) and take one college class for college credit. Students will also be given the opportunity to participate in an on-campus work experience along with a host of other classes and workshops designed by MCB.

To determine a student's readiness to meet the challenges of academic classes and  campus life, each student must complete a college assessment.  For students who want to participate in the 2012 College Prep program this summer, the last day to begin the college assessment at the Michigan Commission for the Blind Training Center in Kalamazoo is June 18.  Referrals are welcome and encouraged at this time.
