Freedom Of Information Act Process for the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs
Effective October 1, 2015, Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests should be submitted in writing to the LARA FOIA Office using the E-mail address, U.S. mailing address, or fax number listed below. The new FOIA record request process, procedures, and forms may be found on the LARA FOIA Office homepage. If you have any questions, please contact the LARA FOIA Office at 517-335-3327; however, requests for documents will not be accepted by phone.
It is the public policy of this state that all persons, except those persons incarcerated in state or local correctional facilities, are entitled to full and complete information regarding the affairs of government and the official acts of those who represent them as public officials and public employees, consistent with this act. The people shall be informed so that they may fully participate in the democratic process.
Michigan's Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), 1976 PA 442, provides that certain persons can receive copies or make inspections of most public records of public bodies upon written request. The person must sufficiently describe the records he or she seeks. The public body may charge a fee to cover the cost of complying with a person's FOIA request.
