Genealogy research at the Michigan Library and Historical CenterThe Michigan Library and Historical Center offers a wide range of family history research materials. Please note, the Library and the Archives of Michigan have different hours. The Library is open 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday through Friday; it is closed Saturday and Sunday.
This Web page has information about conducting genealogy research and using the Library and Historical Center, as well as links to online research tools you may use from anywhere with an Internet connection. Heritage Quest Online
Recommended for: Genealogy, local history and biography researchers. HeritageQuest Online includes all of the images, and extensive indexing, from the 1790 - 1930 U.S. federal censuses. It offers more than 22,000 digitized book titles, including early family histories and local histories. Additionally, there are more than 250 primary-source documents such as tax lists, city directories, probate records and more. It also includes Periodical Source Index (PERSI), Revolutionary War Pension and Bounty Land Warrant Application Files, the Freedman's Bank Records, and the U.S. Serial Set Private Relief Actions, Memorials and Petitions. The 1870 federal census for Michigan provides a list of the family names in each household in every county and township in Michigan in 1870. View and download images of the census pages.

Michigan Cemetery Sources: www.michigan.gov/cemeteries
Michigan Cemetery Sources represents a compilation of published cemetery transcriptions located at the Library of Michigan. It also identifies the location of more than 3,700 cemeteries in Michigan. It is not intended to include personal names.

Michigan County Clerks Directory
County clerk offices maintain public records of great interest to genealogists. The Archives of Michigan has compiled contact information and genealogy research details for each Michigan county clerk.

Michigan Naturalization Record Indexes
Indexes to the naturalization records for 29 Michigan counties are online in PDF format. Researchers may request copies of naturalization records from the Archives of Michigan.

Michigan Newspapers
A list of Michigan newspapers on microfilm at the Library of Michigan. The list is organized by county, and a date range is given for each newspaper.
