2012 Michigan Reads! Moose on the Loose by Kathy-Jo Wargin

Moose on the Loose book cover
Michigan Reads! 2012

What would happen if every parent, grandparent or caregiver read the same book to Michigan preschoolers at the same time? We're on a mission to find out! Michigan Reads! was launched in 2004 by the Library of Michigan in partnership with the Michigan Center for the Book to promote the value and benefits of reading early and often to preschoolers; to encourage family bonding through reading; and to increase awareness and usage of Michigan's libraries.

Michigan Reads! is a program of the Library of Michigan and the Library of Michigan Foundation sponsored by Target.

The Library of Michigan is pleased to announce the 2012 Michigan Reads! book is Moose on the Loose by Kathy-jo Wargin and illustrated by John Bendall-Brunello. Moose on the Loose is full of movement and activity as a little boy meets up with a moose. Using cause-and-effect prose, the reader travels with the moose through the catchy, rhyming text, anticipating the moose's next moves as the boy tries to keep up with this outdoor animal on the run. The story, the language, the rhythm of the questions, and the wonderful illustrations all work together to make Moose on the Loose a read-aloud that both children and older readers will want to experience again and again.

Other titles include Someday is Not a Day of the Week, a touching story about making time for what is really important in life; and Willow, chosen the Most Outstanding Children's Book for 2009 by the Executive Committee of the Mom's Choice Awards. Denise also wrote J is for Jack-O'-Lantern: A Halloween Alphabet. You can find Denise Brennan-Nelson's Website here.
