Newspapers are a vital resource for local history, genealogy and other research needs. The Library of Michigan has the state's largest collection of Michigan newspapers. The collection's holdings span the 200-year history of the state's newspaper publishing industry.
The collection includes titles from all 83 counties, and in many languages representing many of Michigan's ethnic communities. Microfilmed newspaper titles can be found in the newspaper room on the Library's 2nd floor and current newspapers on the 3rd floor. Other titles are held in the periodical collection or the Rare Book Room on the 4th floor.
