LANSING, October 1, 2002 – The Michigan Lottery
will begin implementing Sunday drawings on October 6, 2002, and the games that
will immediately be impacted are the Daily 3 and 4 (both midday and evening) and
Michigan Rolldown. The new Change Play game – which goes on sale statewide on
October 13 – will offer drawings seven days a week, and the first Sunday
drawing for that game will be held on October 20. Finally, Keno game drawings
will be expanded to seven days a week on October 16. Keno drawings currently
take place on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday evenings.
The Michigan Lottery is just one of 10 lotteries
nationwide that does not currently offer Sunday drawings. The other nine states
that do not currently conduct Sunday drawings include: Arizona, Colorado, Idaho,
New Mexico, Ohio, Oregon, South Dakota, Texas and Virginia.
The implementation of Sunday drawings is expected
to increase Lottery sales by an estimated $83 million. That sales increase will
result in an estimated $32 million increase in the Lottery’s contribution to
the state School Aid Fund.
Since it was created in 1972, the Michigan
Lottery has returned over $10.5 billion to the state School Aid Fund, which
supports K-12 public education in the state of Michigan.
