Agency: Lottery

LANSING, March 6, 2000 -- Andy Verardi of Pinckney recently learned he had the hottest ticket in town after scratching off a Michigan Lottery "Hot Numbers" instant ticket to reveal he had won a $30,000 top prize!

The 41-year-old winner purchased the winning ticket at Portage Lake Trading Post, 9270 McGregor Road, in Pinckney.

"My daughter was with me when I scratched off the ticket," Verardi said. "When she said she saw $30,000 I thought maybe she really meant $3 until I looked at the ticket! I took her on a shopping spree with a couple hundred dollars worth of the winnings to celebrate!"

When not golfing, Verardi said he enjoys playing Michigan Lottery instant games. He added that he has been playing the instant games for the past four years. The lucky man said he plans to use his winnings to pay bills.

Prior to turning the winning ticket in at Lottery headquarters in Lansing, the self-employed contractor kept it in a closet to ensure its safety.

"Hot Numbers" is just one of many Michigan Lottery instant tickets available at more than 9,300 Michigan Lottery retailers statewide.
