Agency: Lottery

LANSING, November 19, 1999 -- Margaret Vegh of Windsor, Ontario couldn’t contain her excitement when she realized she had won the $100,000 top prize in the Michigan Lottery’s Cash 5 game!

"I was listening to the radio when they announced the winning Cash 5 numbers," Vegh said. "I woke my husband up right away and turned the television on. The winning numbers were announced again on the 11 o’clock news. Neither one of us could sleep after that, so we played cards all night!"

Vegh, 70, matched all five numbers in the November 15 Cash 5 drawing -- 5, 14, 20, 23 and 26. The winning Cash 5 ticket was purchased at Mac’s Party Shoppe, 1039 W. 12 Mile Road, in Madison Heights. Vegh added that she chose her own numbers based upon the birthdays of her children and grandchildren.

When not traveling with Nick, her husband of 51 years, Vegh said she enjoys playing Michigan Lottery games. She added that she has been playing Lottery games for the past 27 years, and she truly enjoys the wide variety of games offered.

Prior to turning the winning ticket in at Lottery headquarters in Lansing, the homemaker kept it in her purse at all times to ensure its safety. The lucky lady said she and her husband plan to use the winnings to take a trip to see their daughter sometime during the holiday season.

Cash 5 drawings are conducted every Monday through Friday at 7:28 p.m. Players can win $100,000 for matching all five numbers; $350 for matching four of five numbers drawn; or $20 for matching three of five numbers drawn.

Tickets are available for Cash 5 and other Michigan Lottery on-line games at more than 6,400 Lottery retailers throughout the state.
