LANSING, October 28, 2003 Joyce Helms of Lennon recently spelled her way to instant wealth upon
scratching off a Michigan Lottery “Cashword” instant game ticket to reveal a $35,000 top prize!
The lucky woman purchased the winning ticket at Hansens Quik Stop #18, 135 S. Saginaw St., in
Byron.
The 70-year-old retiree was shocked to discover she had a top-prize winning ticket.
“At first I thought I had won a $1,000 prize,” said Helms.
“Then I scratched off the last letter on the ticket
that spelled one more word for the $35,000 top prize! I was so excited about winning that I screamed with joy!”
Prior to turning the winning ticket in at the Lottery’s regional office in Bridgeport, the winner said she kept
it in her purse at all times to ensure its safety. Helms, who enjoys golfing in her free time, said she and her husband, Charles, plan to use
the winnings to pay bills.
“Cashword” is just one of many Michigan Lottery instant tickets available at more than 9,000 Lottery retailers
statewide.
