LANSING, July 20, 2000 -- A Clawson woman said she was in "total shock" upon realizing she had matched all six numbers and was the sole winner of a $1,039,242 Lotto jackpot! The lucky lady, who requested anonymity, was the only Michigan Lottery player to match all six numbers in the July 15 Michigan Lotto
drawing: 6, 13, 18, 27, 33 and 49. That day’s announced jackpot was $2 million. The winner, however, chose to receive her winnings in one lump-sum payment for $1,039,242, the present cash value of the jackpot before taxes.
"I walked into a neighborhood store to find out what the winning numbers were," the winner said. "The clerk gave me a printout of the winning numbers and I realized shortly after looking at them that I had a winning ticket. I literally ran from the store and wasn’t able to talk for a couple hours after learning I had won. I was completely surprised!"
The winning Michigan Lotto ticket was sold at 7-Eleven #15558, 1121 N. Campbell Road, in Royal Oak. Prior to turning the winning ticket in at Lottery headquarters in Lansing, the winner said she kept it locked in a "safe place."
Michigan’s newest Lottery millionaire said she hasn’t quite decided what she wants to do with her winnings yet. She added that part of it will be "put to good use to help others."
The Clawson woman offered the following words of wisdom to other Lottery hopefuls: "Don’t give up playing -- you have to keep trying to win!"
Michigan Lotto drawings are conducted every Wednesday and Saturday. The guaranteed jackpot for the Saturday, July 22 drawing is $2 million.
