Finding the right attorney

Attorneys specialize in diverse areas of law. When planning for long term care you should choose an attorney that is specialized in tax, estate and Medicaid laws. The following questions may help you in finding such an attorney:

  1. Are you familiar with Medicaid rules and regulations?

  2. Do you have an up-to-date Medicaid manual in your office?

  3. Is there anyone else in your office/firm that is familiar with Medicaid rules and regulations?

  4. How often (or what percentage of your clients) do you work with Medicaid issues?

  5. When was the last time that you worked with a client with a Medicaid issue?

  6. What trainings have you completed/attended about Medicaid? How recently were they?

  7. Do you have any references or clients that you helped with Medicaid that I could speak with?

  8. How often (or what percentage of your clients) do you work with on estate planning issues?

  9. What trainings have you completed/attended on tax and/or estate law? How recently were they?

  10. Do you have business relationships or partnerships with other financial or insurance professionals that will benefit from your recommendations to me?
