    Licensing Exam Process

    The licensing examination process (including the retest) MUST be completed within one (1) year of the completion of your basic training track courses, as mandated by the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards, regardless of your graduation date.

    Requests for a specific accommodation for a disability must be made, in writing, to the Commission. A minimum of sixty (60) days is required for consideration of such requests. For further information, contact the Standards Compliance Section at (517) 322-1417. The Commission follows the requirements of all applicable legislation.

    CANDIDATE REGISTRATION

    The following options are available for test registration:

    On-line Registration

    On-line registration can be accessed by visiting www.pbstesting.com/mcoles_cert

    Upon selecting the link "Register for the Test", candidates will be asked to enter their Social Security Number, and to enter an e-mail address and password. The system will automatically select the test date and location for each candidate (using information provided by MCOLES.)  Candidates will be required to pay the test fee using a major credit card (Visa, MasterCard) or a debit card with the Visa or MasterCard logo.

    Candidates may cancel their registration up to the scheduled start time for the test and receive a full refund.  Any cancellations after the scheduled start time will need to be processed by PBS. PBS will work with the MCOLES Exam Coordinator to process these cancellations.

    Phone Registration

    Candidates may register by phone by calling PBS toll-free (at 877-422-4092), Monday through Friday, between the hours of 8:30-5:30 ET. They will be required to pay the test fee using a major credit card (Visa or MasterCard) or a debit card with the Visa or MasterCard logo.

    PBS will register the candidate using the online registration system, and will provide the candidate with a confirmation of registration via either e-mail or U.S. mail.

    Mail Registration

    Candidates may utilize U.S. mail registration if they wish to pay via money order. No personal checks will be accepted. In addition, PBS must receive both the mail registration form and money order at least 10 days prior to the preferred test date.

    Candidates may request a mail registration form:

    • from PBS (by calling toll free, 877-422-4092);
    • by accessing the online registration site, entering their Social Security number, e-mail address, and password and then clicking on the link to the Money Order on the following page.

    PBS will register the candidate using the online registration system, and will provide the candidate with a confirmation of registration via either e-mail or U.S. mail.
