Deputy Sheriff – Bailiff Deputy, Sheriff's Office Note: There are two full-time MCOLES Certified Deputy Sheriff Positions available. Shifts will vary and include work on a day shift patrol (6a-6p) or night shift patrol (6p-6a). PRIMARY PURPOSE To provide law enforcement services for the people of Emmet County.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS 1. Apprehend, subdue and control individuals who require physical intervention. 2. Provide assistance to other agencies and the general public as needed. 3. Attend Court Sessions and provide court security as directed. 4. Provide Emmet County building security checks as assigned. 5. Apprehend or secure any person for felony/misdemeanor or breach of peace. 6. Arrest and prosecute persons violating penal code. 7. Handle insufficient check cases as assigned. 8. Prepare accurate written records and reports. 9. Process various civil and criminal subpoenas as well as other court orders. 10. Perform other job related duties as assigned. 11. Perform job functions in a safe manner.

JOB LOCATION Primary assignment is within the County of Emmet. Assignments might require out of county travel for short time periods.

WORKING CONDITIONS Good physical condition Use of communication equipment including hand-held radios, cell phones, and computers Unpredictable work environment, including heat, cold, indoor, outdoor, and potentially dangerous environments. Works various shifts as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Must be 18 years of age Must possess a minimum of an Associate Degree Must be MCOLES licensable or MCOLES licensed. Must successfully complete written and oral examinations. Must pass an extensive background investigation
