Through City Year Detroit, 81 full-time AmeriCorps members in eight teams will implement a service model of academic support, afterschool programming, and building positive school climate at an assigned Detroit public school building Monday through Thursday. Two teams will implement the Heroes youth volunteer program with 620 youth Tuesday through Saturday. Members will 1) provide literacy and math tutoring for 810 elementary, middle, and high school students; 2) provide whole-class academic support at all schools; 3) provide attendance or behavior coaching for middle and high school students; 4) implement educational after-school programs at all schools; 5) provide enrichment programming at all schools, during the day or after-school; and, 6) engage 1,000 volunteers in service to each school. Programming provides targeted services to students at risk of dropping out to put them on track for graduation.
