The MARESA (Marquette Alger Regional Education Service Agency) - Michigan's AmeriCorps program engages 12 full-time members in service to local schools in Marquette and Alger Counties. Members will serve in schools and community/faith-based organizations in Michigan's Upper Peninsula in order to provide academic support in school, after-school, and during summer school, as well as assisting with community-based education and resource activities to at least 2,300 student from preschool through 12th grade. Overall program goals are to improve self-esteem among 75% of youth served, increase interest in school and learning as evidenced by long-term participation in activities, and improved grades in the academic areas served. Additionally, members will recruit and manage 200 community volunteers to support AmeriCorps program efforts.
