"Students in Service to America" Guidebook

Young student and tutor reading together

President George W. Bush is calling upon all Americans to commit at least 4,000 hours - the equivalent of two years over the course of their lives - to the service of others.  "Students in Service to America" is a guidebook for engaging America's students in a lifelong habit of service.  This collaboration between the Department of Education, USA Freedom Corps, the Points of Light Foundation, and the Corporation for National and Community Service describes how educators can help enlist youth in school-based service and service-learning.  More than 130,000 public and private elementary and secondary schools, homeschools, and afterschool programs will receive the guidebook, along with a CD-ROM, posters, and other resources.

The web site www.studentsinservicetoamerica.org provides access to the guidebook, as well as additional resources, such as curriculum connections, civic education and character education resources, funding opportunities, and more!  Get connected today!
