2009 Governor's Service Awards Honors Volunteers!

Governor Jennifer M. Granholm and First Gentleman Daniel G. Mulhern recognized outstanding individuals, organizations, and businesses during the 2009 Governor's Service Awards, held Thursday, June 18.  The Governor's Service Awards are given annually to individuals, businesses, and organizations to acknowledge their commitment to serving their communities through volunteerism. 

A celebration was hosted by Governor Jennifer M. Granholm and First Gentleman Daniel G. Mulhern to pay tribute to finalists, including the award winner, in each of the eight categories that demonstrate the diverse nature of volunteers throughout the state.   

On Thursday, June 18 the Governor's Service Awards winners were announced for 2009.

Governor George Romney Lifetime Achievement Award:

·         John Duley of Okemos

Corporate Community Leader Award:

·         Yeo and Yeo of Saginaw

2009 Corporate Community Leader Award

Mentor of the Year:

·         Jonathan Crawford of Detroit

2009 Mentor of the Year

Outstanding Mentoring Program Award:

·         Michigan State University Extension Journey 4-H Youth Mentoring Program of West Olive

2009 Outstanding Mentoring Program Award

Outstanding Volunteer Program Award:

·         South Oakland Shelter of Royal Oak

2009 Outstanding Volunteer Program Award

Senior Volunteer of the Year:

·         William Yaeger of Ann Arbor

2009 Senior Volunteer of the Year

Volunteer of the Year:

·         Marianne Tanis of Wyoming

2009 Volunteer of the Year

Youth Volunteer of the Year:

·         Marcus Brown of Coleman

2009 Youth Volunteer of the Year
