Patricia Lockwood

March 18, 2004 - Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced that Patricia Lockwood has been appointed the state’s Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) Policy Director, effective immediately.

"While Michigan has built a strong foundation and network to respond to the threat the invasive and destructive Emerald Ash Borer poses to our state’s ash trees and natural resources, Pat will help steer and drive efforts forward," Granholm said. "Her energy, commitment to public service and years of experience in the State Legislature and local government make her an integral addition to the team."

In her new role, Lockwood will coordinate EAB initiatives among the Governor’s Office and Michigan Departments of Agriculture, Natural Resources, State Police and Transportation. Additionally, she will serve as a key liaison with local units of government in Southeast Michigan and across the state as well as with Michigan’s federal counterparts, neighboring states and Canada.

"Pat has tremendous background and knowledge to assist statewide policy and communication efforts regarding EAB and to help strengthen linkages between our state, federal, local, university, community and industry partners," added Dan Wyant, director of the Michigan Department of Agriculture, which is helping spearhead EAB response and eradication efforts in conjunction with the Michigan’s Emerald Ash Borer Task Force.

Lockwood most recently served as State Transportation Commission Advisor. Previously, she served as state representative for the 51st District from 1998 to 2002 where she served as the minority vice chair for the House Local Government/Urban Policy and Transportation committees and as a member of the Appropriations Committee. She worked as the mayor of Fenton from 1989 to 1998. A current board member and prior president of the Michigan Municipal League, Lockwood is a former board member on the National League of Cities and has served in numerous leadership roles and community organizations in Genesee County.

She and her husband, Ron, reside in Fenton and have three married children: Heather, Brad and Brooke.
