AGRICULTURAL TRADE ASSISTANCE
FROM THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT

 

Exporters interested in programs and services provided by the US Department of Agriculture’s Foreign Agriculture Service (FAS) may contact the Trade Assistance and Promotion Office (TAPO). TAPO serves as an initial point of contact for persons who need foreign market information and export assistance. It also provides reports on the consumer food market in numerous countries.

Goals and Objectives:

  • To promote and facilitate the export of Michigan agriculture commodities.
  • Hold "Export Resource Seminars" designed to educate beginning exporters to the resources available to them from state, federal & private sources
  • Maintain MI Agricultural Export Directory
  • Promote and Organize Michigan Presence at Domestic and International Trade Shows
  • MID-America International Agri-Trade Council (MIATCO) member state
  • Work with Michigan commodity organizations
  • Work as a conduit of information from the food and agricultural exporting industry to state and federal government officials, and vice versa in regard to World Trade Organization (WTO) and North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) rules, practices and foreign countries.

To increase the level of exports by Midwest producers and processors of value-added food Services Available:

  • Assistance at foreign trade shows
  • Trade missions to foreign markets
  • Visits by international buyers to Midwest producers
  • Assistance in locating importer/distributors in selected markets
  • Training programs for new or inexperienced exporter
  • Forwarding overseas buyer inquiries
  • Calendar of events for international sales activities
  • Contacts and advice for food exporters
  • Reimburse firms for international promotional activities
