The Michigan Farm Produce Insurance Authority, created by P.A. 198 of 2003, is a nine-member (seven voting) board, representing farmers and grain, feed and banking interests, and has the responsibility of establishing, administering and promoting the fund. MDA Director Don Koivisto chairs the board, and is a non-voting member. The department has auditing and regulatory oversight responsibilities at grain elevators in Michigan. Other members include:
- Carl Bednarski, Vice Chair, Caro (representing general farm interests);
- Carmen Cousino, Temperance (representing general farm interests);
- Derek Lecronier, Freeland (representing general farm interests);
- Lyle Lecronier, Freeland (representing soybean producers);
- Mark Stoeckle, Treasurer, Cass City (representing agricultural lenders);
- Lynn Uphaus, Manchester (representing corn producers);
- Gene Van Driessche, Bay City (representing dry bean producers); and,
- Arthur A. Loeffler (non-voting member), Frankenmuth (representing grain licensees)
