Examination Process and Examination Schedule

Certified Pesticide Applicator and Registered Applicator exams are being offered by the Michigan Department of Agriculture (MDA) at several locations throughout the state. To obtain an exam schedule, click here to go to the state map and select the region where you would like to take an exam.

Note:  Applicators may wish to cross regional lines to attend an exam session which is closer for them.  It is not necessary to stay within county or regional limits when taking exams.

Please look here to find contact information to make reservations to take your exam(s) and to obtain the location of the exam site.  Exams are given by appointment only. Both the application and fee must be submitted at the examination site.
Applications should not be mailed.

(Please be advised: exam sessions are subject to change.)

Fees:

Commercial Pesticide Applicator $75.00
Commercial Registered Pesticide Applicator $45.00
Private Certification $50.00
Private Registered Applicator $50.00

Application fees must be submitted along with an application (4-part carbonized).
Only checks and money orders are accepted.  No cash, please.

Results:

Examination results will be made available to applicants upon completion of the examination.  At some locations, exam results will be made available by mail within 24 to 48 hours of the time the examination is taken.

Pesticide Applicator Credentials:

Applications are carbonized forms and must be kept with the applicant until the examination process is successfully completed.  When the examination process is completed, a card will be mailed to the applicant.  The card is the applicator's credential and must remain in the applicator's possession at all times.

Credentials expire December 31st every third year.  At the end of the 3-year period, credentials may be renewed by seminar credit or by examination.  Registered Applicator credentials may be renewed by seminar credit or by taking a category-specific training program refresher and a written examination.
