Nursery/Plant Dealers & Growers Licensing & Inspection Introduction

Nursery Licensing:

Michigan's Insect Pest and Plant Disease Act, Act 189 of 1931

requires that "Any person, firm, partnership, association or corporation engaged in the business of growing, selling or re-shipping nursery stock or herbaceous perennials must be licensed in the state of Michigan..

Who Doesn't Need a License?

Those who only sell annual flower or vegetable plants are not required to obtain a license to sell within the state.

Inspection:

All nursery stock produced in the state must be inspected and found to be free from serious pests before it may be sold or moved from one location to another. Growers must arrange for an inspection of their nursery stock or herbaceous perennials by contacting the MDA regional office that serves their county.
