Turfgrass and Sports

Athletic fields need to be able to live up to hard usage with a quick recovery and repair time. It takes a lot of maintence to keep these grasses strong and up to best for the sports. The grass needs to be fertilized, watered and mowed on a regular schedule.

Different sports require different types of grasses.  The characteristics of the grasses need to be conducive to the activity that will take place on it.  Some sports are played entirely on the field, such as soccer and football while others are played without using the entire field area, such as baseball and cricket.

Most of the althetic grasses are seeded mixtures.  This allows the most coverage for the longest amount of time.

Other sports that are played on grass fields are outdoor volleyball, softball, tennis, badminton, polo, lawn bowling greens, croquet as well as general recreational parks.
