November 7, 2005,
Lansing, MI - Governor Jennifer M. Granholm announced this week the
appointment of Daniel H. Reeves, of Dearborn, to the Michigan Food Policy Council
(MFPC). Reeves is the executive vice president of the Associated Food Dealers
of Michigan and is appointed to represent food retailers for a term expiring
June 6, 2007.
Created by Executive Order
2005-13 and funded in part by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, the MFPC brings diverse
food-related stakeholders together to recommend programs and policies to the
Governor that cultivate a safe, healthy and available food supply to all of
Michigan's residents while building on the state's agricultural diversity to
enhance economic growth.
"Mr. Reeves' appointment
is a key addition to the work of the Council," said Mitch Irwin, MDA director
and MFPC chairperson. "The role of retailers in providing Michigan consumers
with access to Michigan foods, fresh and processed, is of utmost importance
to our economy, health and agricultural community, and Dan will bring their
perspective and ideas to the table."
Goals of the MFPC include:
expanding businesses and jobs across food-related sectors in the state; increasing
access to fresh and healthy Michigan grown foods, including for small children,
low-income families, at-risk seniors, and inner-city residents; promoting the
purchase and consumption of Michigan-grown and Michigan-processed foods; identifying
strategies to enhance connections between Michigan growers and Michigan food
outlets; and enhancing agricultural viability.
