Department of Homeland Security Chemical Facility Standards (April 2007)

*NEW* Department of Homeland Security Chemical Facility Standards

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) published Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorism Standards in the Federal Register on April 9, 2007. They become effective in 60 days on June 8, 2007.

To see if they are impacted, fertilizer and pesticide storage facilities should consult Appendix A: Chemicals of Interest in the standards. Owners of chemical facilities with quantities in Appendix A will have to complete a preliminary online assessment to determine the level of risk associated with the facility within 120 days. DHS will inspect the highest risk facilities (the top 300-400 out of 15,000 facilities) this summer.
