The Industry Sector Committee is focusing its attention on creating maps of key industries, coming out of research and dialogue with leaders in each sector, with a goal of ensuring state policy anticipates and is responsive to the 5-10 year horizon in those industries.
The Industry Sector Committee has also provided oversight for the Regional Skills Alliances that have been launched during the past three years. These partnerships for workforce solutions help groups of employers identify key workforce challenges and then sharply focus all available public sector resources on addressing them. Led by employers, the partners include education and training providers, workforce and economic developers, community organizations, and others. The 33 MiRSAs created since 2004 are engaging hundreds of companies with thousands of workers to identify and address a wide range of workforce challenges to ensure that employers can find, develop, and retain the talent they need to compete successfully. Employers report that MiRSAs are making Michigan a better place in which to do business.
