Community Invited to Celebrate Hispanic Heritage on Tuesday, Sept. 29th in Lansing Tickets Available for Hispanic Heritage Awards and Recognition Dinner
September 21, 2009 - Michiganians are invited to attend a day-long celebration of Hispanic and Latino culture that will take place in Lansing on Tuesday, September 29th.
The events are part of Michigan's recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month celebrated nationally September 15 - October 15.The festivities are a coordinated effort by the Michigan Hispanic Caucus, co-chaired by Senator Valde Garcia and Representatives Lee Gonzales and John Espinoza; the Capital Area Cesar E. Chavez Commission; the Commission on Spanish-Speaking Affairs; and Lansing Community College.
Citizens from all across Michigan will convene in downtown Lansing to participate in the day-long festivities that include a summit for high school students at Lansing Community College, the opportunity to meet with college recruiters, and a motivational speech by Mr. Ruben Gonzalez, Three-time Olympian and National Luge Champion from Houston, Texas. Lunch and entertainment will follow on the State Capitol lawn at 11:30 a.m.
Mr. Gonzalez will also be keynote speaker at the recognition and Cesar E. Chavez Commemorative Dinner that will take place at 5 p.m. at the Causeway Bay Hotel (previously Holiday Inn South).
