Wayne County Main MRS Office / Hamtramck Office

The Detroit Schools Office serves students throughout the Detroit Public Schools (including the Center Based Schools, Detroit Transition East, Detroit Transition West, Cooley North Kettering West, Johnson McKinney) Hamtramck and Highland Park Schools.

Orientation Information:

Orientations to MRS are conducted at each high school and vocational technical center. Please call 313-868-3434 or 877-619-6656 (toll free) for details.

8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday - Friday.


Directions to Office:

The Detroit Schools Office is located at 13000 Dequindre in the Detroit Transition East School building, three (3)  blocks south of McNichols street, on the east side of Detroit.


Unique Features:

The Detroit Schools Office services more than 600 students per year. The team consists of 7 vocational rehabilitation counselors, 2 employment specialists, 2 rehabilitation assistants, and 1 blended staff person, a Center for Independent Living Coordinator, receptionist and site manager.

 

Professional Rehabilitation Counselors outreach Detroit Public Schools, Hamtramck and Highland Park High School to identify students with disabilities in Special and Regular education programs to provide school to work transition services. Detroit Center Based Schools are targeted to provide Supportive Employment Services to students with the most significant disabilities who will need employment support throughout their work lives.

 

Special programs and projects are designed to accomplish preparedness, acquirement of and retention of jobs. the Diversibility Grant, the Whole Person Vocational Development Program are examples of career and employability development programs.

 

The Supported Employment Program provides job-coaching support to consumers, who benefit from a place-train model. Referrals of independent living services are designed to help youth achieve independence. The staff at the Detroit Schools Office works closely with parents, community partners, transition specialists, counselors, vocational consultants, administrators and teachers to achieve individual employment plan objectives and employment outcomes.
