MRS Diversity and Multicultural Values

MRS Diversity and Multicultural Values

Michigan Rehabilitation Services MRS values equity in:

  • Access
  • Benefits
  • Outcomes
  • Participation
  • for all individuals who receive services.

We believe that diversity--differences among people with respect to several factors including:

  • Age
  • Culture
  • Disability
  • Gender
  • Geographic Location
  • Job Classification
  • Race
  • Religion
  • Sexual Orientation
  • Socio-Economic Status

is a source of organizational strength. MRS values diversity and inclusion in its workforce, customers,
community partners, and service providers, and strives to assure that its value for diversity permeates
every aspect of its business and organizational culture.

We believe that organizational resources should be directed toward achieving such diversity and inclusion.

We believe that diversity and inclusion add value to the organization and to the services we provide
our customers.  Characteristics of this added value include:

  • Differences in experiences, perceptions, and beliefs, which lead to differing approaches to
    problems and problem solving;
  • Differences in skills, education, methods, and contracts, which enrich our work as teams; and
  • Quality services, which recognize individual differences.

We believe that differences among people should not be barriers to the potential of individuals to make
contributions to the organization and to make contributions to the organization and to society.

Further MRS recognizes that every culture has its unique sets of strengths and values.

MRS staff must:

  • Actively seek new information and skills regarding
  • Acknowledge
  • Accept
  • Accommodate

differences that respect the inherent dignity and worth of the individual and enable each individual to
make maximum contributions to the organization and to society.

The service delivery system is responsive to differences in values and recognizes these differences as
strengths that contribute to the achievement of quality rehabilitation outcomes. Individuals referred to MRS
are entitled to be treated in a manner that recognizes their strength, their integrity and and their uniqueness as individuals.

MRS will develop, implement, and administer:

  • Policies
  • Procedures
  • Quality Programs
  • Services
  • Resources

in a manner that promotes equity in:

  • Customer Benefits
  • Services
  • Outcomes
