About The Council
The Council for Labor and Economic Growth (CLEG) was created by Executive Order No. 2004 - 36 to remain consistent with the provisions of the federal Workforce Investment Act of 1998 (WIA) and regulations issued pursuant to the act. Members of the board serve in an advisory capacity to the Governor and the director of the Michigan Department of Energy, Labor & Economic Growth, and are charged with the development and continuous improvement of a Statewide Workforce Investment System.
The organization and structure of the board, pursuant to WIA, is designed to bring together leaders from business, education, and labor; human service providers; and state and local officials to ensure coordination of Workforce Investment-related services.
Members of CLEG are appointed by the Governor (members representing the private sector must also be nominated by a local or statewide business or trade association). For more information or to apply for membership on the Council, please visit the Governor's Appointments Office or contact the CLEG staff for assistance.
