Applicants are required to pass the national examination in Marital and Family Therapy. The Association of Marital and Family Therapy Regulatory Boards (AMFTRB) developed this examination in association with Professional Examination Services (PES). Additional information about the test is available at www.amftrb.org.
The applicant must first apply for a license with the Bureau of Health Professions. You may download the application from this website on the marriage and family therapy profession's homepage.
In order to be eligible for the examination, the application, fee and required documentation must be received in the Application Section of the Bureau of Health Professions by the deadline date indicated below. Please mail to:

If the applicant meets all licensure requirements except passage of the examination, an examination registration packet will be sent by the Bureau.
The examination application will be sent to PES by the applicant. PES will send an "authorization-to-test" letter (ATT) to the applicant.
Results will be reported approximately four to six weeks following the testing window.
