Optometry Exam Information - CHANGE IN EXAM REQUIREMENTS FOR 2004
In order to become licensed in Michigan, an applicant must submit an application to the Department of Community Health, Bureau of Health Professions. An application packet can be requested by email at bhpinfo@michigan.gov or by calling (517) 335-0918. At the prompt, choose 2, 1 and 1 and leave a voice mail message with a detailed request.
An applicant must have graduated from a college or school of optometry that is approved by the board. Applicants must submit passing scores on Parts 1, 2 and 3 of the National Board (NBEO) Examinations. These scores must be sent to our office directly from the National Board.
Effective in 2004, the Michigan exam requirements have changed. Applicants for a Michigan Optometry license will only be required to complete the Michigan Optometry Laws and Rules exam. This exam will be sent to applicants after the application and fee are received in the Board office. The examination must be completed and returned to the Michigan Board of Optometry before a license is issued.
There is no longer a Michigan Practical Exam requirement.
