How many continuing education hours are required to renew my license? Are there any special requirements?

If you are licensed as an LBSW or an MBSW and your license is valid for less than a 3-year period, you do not need to obtain continuing education contact hours to renew your license. However, if your license is valid for a 3-year period, you need to earn a total of 45 continuing education contact hours over the course of your 3-year licensing cycle. There is no specific amount required per year -- you can earn them all in one year, or spread them out evenly over the licensure cycle but the credits earned must fall within the dates of your licensure cycle.

Of the 45 hours required, 5 hours need to be earned in ethics and 1 hour needs to be in pain and pain symptom management. Continuing education contact hours in pain and pain symptom management may include, but are not limited to, courses in behavior management, psychology of pain, behavior modification, and stress management.
