Proposed CT Rules and Meeting (posted 10/30/2009)

The Radiation Safety Section is proposing a new set of rules on computed tomography (CT). These proposed rules are separate from the complete overhaul of the Ionizing Radiation Rules we are currently working on as part of the Agreement State initiative. The proposed CT rules would add "Part 15 - Computed Tomography Installations" to our current set of rules. The draft is posted on our website under Draft Rules for Comment. See the attachment for more information about the proposed CT rules.

John Ferris, the rules specialist for the Radiation Safety Section, made a presentation at a break-out session at the Certificate of Need (CON) seminar on October 27, 2009 by John Ferris. This presentation offers more information about this project.

We solicit your comments and suggestions on the draft CT rules. Please share with your colleagues for their opinions. You may send comments to John Ferris, our rules specialist at jeferri@michigan.gov or you can send it to our general e-mail address rssinfo@michigan.gov. We also would like to have a face-to-face meeting with anyone interested in discussing the proposed rules. A meeting for that discussion has been scheduled for:

November 20, 2009 between 9:30 a.m. and noon
Lake Superior Conference Room
Michigan Library and Historical Center
702 West Kalamazoo Street
Lansing, MI

Directions - Parking

Invite anyone else you think may be interested in taking part in this discussion. Please send an e-mail to bmatko@michigan.gov if you plan to attend so we can be sure we have adequate meeting space.

After this meeting on November 20th, we will finalize a draft that will begin its way through the rules promulgation process. This process includes a public meeting, so everyone will have an additional comment opportunity.

Thank you for your help in this project!
