ACPSM Member List | History of the ACPSM The Advisory Committee on Pain and Symptom Management, which consists of representatives from several of the health professional boards, was established under the occupational regulation sections of the Michigan Public Health Code, P.A. 421 of 1998, which took effect April 1, 1999. The committee was charged with addressing issues pertaining to pain and symptom management, holding a public hearing to gather information from the general public and making recommendations to the legislature. In November 2002, the ACPSM issued a report of its findings. This document included several recommendations. Among these recommendations was the exploration of statutory changes in the Public Health Code or administrative rules addressing pain and symptom management, the dissemination of policy statements or adoption of state guidelines regarding this issue, and the creation of a state website containing pain management information for both professionals and the public.
In May 2006, the Governor appointed new members to reconvene the committee. They will continue the work of the previous committee, follow up on recommendations outlined in the previous committee's report and consider new recommendations to present to the legislature. New Governor appointments and reappointments, and appointments by several of the health profession boards have occurred since December 2007. There is now a full complement of members on the committee. |
