Infection Control in Health Care Settings

Flu Vaccine Campaign Slogan

Remember: The single best way to protect against the flu is to get vaccinated each year.

For Health Care Settings

Hand Hygiene in Health Care Settings   - These hand hygiene guidelines were developed by the CDC's Healthcare Infection Control Practices Advisory Committee (HICPAC), in collaboration with the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America (SHEA), the Association of Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC), the Infectious Disease Society of America (IDSA).

Hand Hygiene Resource Center   - The HHRC's mission is to advance the quality of patient care and reduce infection by improving hand hygiene practices in healthcare settings.

Michigan Society for Infection Control (MSIC)   - Founded in 1973, the purpose of MSIC is to promote healthy communities through epidemiology.

Flu Fighter Action Kit for Health Care Personnel  - The Michigan Department of Community Health Flu Education Workgroup, along with partners from the Michigan Flu Advisory Board, Michigan Advisory Committee on Immunization, and Alliance for Immunization in Michigan has developed a Flu Fighter Action Kit to serve as a framework for implementing an immunization program in a health care facility, geared at immunizing health care personnel against influenza. Information in this kit can be modified to develop an immunization program for all health care personnel vaccinations.

For Hospitals

Emergency Medical Services Authority - Disaster Medical Services Division HICS  - the external scenarios include pandemic flu and plague

CDC Safe Care Campaign    - This online reference guide lists strategies to help prevent health care and community acquired infections.

CDC Guidelines for Isolation Precautions   - The Guideline for Isolation Precautions: Preventing Transmission of Infectious Agents in Healthcare Settings 2007 updates and expands the 1996 Guideline for Isolation Precautions in Hospitals.

Respiratory Hygiene/Cough Etiquette in Health Care Settings  - To prevent the transmission of all respiratory infections in healthcare settings, including influenza, the following infection control measures should be implemented at the first point of contact with a potentially infected person. They should be incorporated into infection control practices as one component of Standard Precautions.
