Oral Health Programs

Children With Special Health Care Needs Services

Community Workforce Projects

A four year grant to:

  • Increase dental access through the development of a community-based clinic
  • Promote oral health through community-based dental health services

Donated Dental Program

  • Collaboration with the Michigan Dental Association, works to find dentists and dental labs to donate dental services to the elderly and disabled. 
  • The program is funded through the Michigan Department of Community Health to the Michigan Dental Association and the National Foundation of Dentistry for the Handicapped.
  • For information on applying for the Donated Dental Program contact:  Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, and St. Clair Counties:  (248) 489-2204 or (800) 850-5913.  All other parts of the state:  (517) 817-2372  or (866) 263-4067
  • Waiting list is often two years or longer for services.

Developmentally Disabled Dental Program

  • Provides limited funding to assist the severe developmentally disabled population to access dental services.
  • Clients accepted for funding is through referral basis only from client case managers.
  • Applications are available for case managers by calling the MDHC Oral Health Program at (517) 335-8879 or via e-mail at oralhealth@michigan.gov

Healthy Kids, MI Child  and Adult Medicaid Dental Programs

          Note:  Medicaid does not provide a list of dental providers who accept Medicaid adult dental plans.

                        

Michigan Dental Program

PA 161 Program

  • Allows dental hygienist to work under relaxed dental supervision rules to provide service to the underserved children and elderly populations.

Targeted Oral Health Services 

 A three year grant project to: 

  • Increase age-one dental visits to improve the oral health status of children in Michigan - collaboration with pediatricians and pediatric dentists
  • Improve access to oral health services for children with special health care needs
  • Assist in finding a "dental home" - dentist that will provide restorative treatment of active disease through dental sealant programs
