The HIV Unit performs testing for HIV-1 antibody on dried blood spots and oral mucosal transudate specimens. HIV-2 antibody testing, with prior approval, is performed on serum. HIV-1 viral load quantitation and CD4/CD8 enumeration are available to "approved programs" only. HIV 1/2 screening of serum is performed through regional lab sites at the City of Detroit and Kent County Health Departments.
