Bureau of Disease Control, Prevention, and Epidemiology Internships & Fellowships

The Bureau of Disease Control, Prevention, and Epidemiology is an active participant in a variety of internship opportunities.  Bureau staff members believe that hosting internships is an important tool to promote and expand epidemiologic activities, as well as a means to contribute to public health workforce development.  To that end, staff endeavor to assist student applicants whenever possible, from arranging daylong meetings/tours for student groups, to hosting students for clinical rotations ranging from weeks to months, or to crafting summer-long student projects.

Students from any college or university in the state are welcome to contact us.  We have found that those best matched to our program areas are graduate or professional students pursuing advanced degrees.

The Bureau regularly participates with the Epidemiologic Intelligence Service (EIS) Officers' program from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Applied Epidemiology Fellowship program from the Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists, and the Preventive Medicine Residency program from the University of Michigan.  Topic areas include infectious diseases, environmental health, maternal and child health, genomics, and chronic disease.

Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH) Internships and Fellowships Process

MDCH as an agency promotes academic internships offering real-world work experience in an intern's chosen field.  These internships are an excellent opportunity for students to work for MDCH and see the value of being a public servant.

An MDCH Academic Internship Policy is available for review.

To help prospective interns apply for Academic Internships with MDCH, visit the the MDCH home page and look under "State Jobs and Internship Opportunities."  Interns: Please address any questions or suggestions you may have to your Internship Coordinator or your supervisor.

To host an intern, log into the MDCH Intranet site, and look under "Employee Services - Academic Internships."
