February is African American AIDS Awareness Month

Michigan Department of Community Health Director Janet Olszewski discusses activities planned for African American AIDS Awareness Month in February.
Transcript:

HIV and AIDS continue to create a heavy impact on the African American community.

The Michigan Department of Community Health estimates that 1 in 100 African-American males and 1 in 260 African-American women in Michigan may be infected with HIV.

I'm Janet Olszewski, the Director of the Michigan Department of Community Health.

All this month, events will take place across Michigan to raise awareness about HIV and AIDS in the African American community.

We cannot ignore the uneven burden HIV and AIDS have on African Americans. Please, help stop the spread of this disease and get tested.

For more information, call the Michigan AIDS Hotline at 1-800-872-AIDS (2437).
