Practice Sun Safety

Michigan Department of Community Health Director Janet Olszewski discusses the importance of practicing sun safety this summer.
Transcript:
  • Fun in the sun is always a summertime favorite, but make sure you take care of your skin.
  • My name is Janet Olszewski and I am the Director of the Michigan Department of Community Health.
  • Over exposure to the sun can cause heat exhaustion, sunburn, skin cancer, and wrinkles.
  • There are ways to protect yourself from overexposure and still enjoy the warm weather.
  • If you are going to be in the sun, wear sun block, sunglasses with complete UV protection and hats to shield your face and eyes.
  • Also, relax in the shade and be sure to stay hydrated with plenty of water.
  • For more tips on sun safety and effects of sun exposure speak with your doctor or visit our Web site at www.michigan.gov/mdch.
