Did you know that every 72 seconds, someone in America develops Alzheimer's.
I'm Janet Olszewski, the Director of the Michigan Department of Community Health.
November is Alzheimer's Disease Awareness Month. Alzheimer's is a progressive, degenerative disease that attacks the brain and causes impaired memory, thinking, and behavior.
About 5.1 million Americans have Alzheimer's with more than 200,000 in Michigan.
Alzheimer's is the fifth leading cause of death for those 65 and older.
There's no known cure, but brain exercises like puzzles, word games, and regular social interaction are believed to help delay it.
