Michigan's Chief Nurse Executive

This position focuses on POLICY AND LEGISLATION, related to Michigan's nursing workforce and nursing's unique ability to address health care in our State.

Job Summary for the Chief Nurse Executive

  • Chief nursing expert
  • Provide expertise and leadership in health policy development, nursing education, nursing licensing, nursing clinical evaluation.
  • Partner with educational institutions and health care providers to assure availability of qualified nurses.
  • Provide leadership for critical issues including patient safety, health care quality, emerging technology and innovation.

Building a Healthy Michigan
Address our shortage of health care workers, especially nurses. This shortage is particularly acute in nursing where 75 percent of all hospital staff vacancies are nurses, and it is predicted that by 2010, Michigan may have a shortfall of 5,000 nurses.
