In cooperation with the Michigan State Fair and Consumers Energy, the Michigan Commission and Office of Services to the Aging have selected Evald Jorgensen of Oxford as one of two Senior Citizens of the Year for 2005. Mr. Jorgensen was selected the winner in the category of Service. He was honored today at the Michigan State Fair.
Jorgensen, 77, began his involvement with the Oxford Senior Citizens group 10 years ago and currently serves as President. His dedication and leadership are a true testament to his belief in service to others. Jorgensen is also active in his church and in other community organizations. He is a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and is a strong pillar of support for his family.
"Mr. Jorgensen sets an example for all of us on the importance of staying active and involved in our community," said Sharon L. Gire, Director of the Michigan Office of Services to the Aging. "His impact on local seniors is tremendous and it is an honor to be able to honor Mr. Jorgensen as Senior Citizen of the Year."
The Senior Citizen of the Year Award Program is a long-standing partnership between the Michigan Commission and Office of Services to the Aging and the Michigan State Fair. Consumers Energy has supported the award program for many years. Each winner received a congratulatory letter from the Governor, a certificate of congratulations from the Michigan Office of Services to the Aging, and a plaque from the Michigan State Fair. This year, each winner also received a $1,000 award from Consumers Energy.
