Important Information Regarding Meningitis Associated with Steroid InjectionsImportant Information Regarding Meningitis Associated with Steroid InjectionsAs of April 29, 2013, Michigan's case count associated with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention multi-state meningitis investigation is 260 total cases, including 16 deaths. 22 meningitis with no other infection noted
16 deaths* (Two deaths associated with stroke, four associated with an epidural abscess, and 10 among patients counted as meningitis cases.) *Three additional Michigan resident deaths are being counted as an Indiana cases as that's where treatment occurred. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Food and Drug Administration are coordinating a multi-state investigation of meningitis among patients who had received steroid injections, the contaminated product reported to be the cause of the outbreak. Cases of illness have been reported in Michigan and a response is being coordinated between local public health, the four Michigan facilities in receipt of the recalled product and the Michigan Department of Community Health.
