Underage Drinking

<p>JANET: Hello. I'm Janet Olszewski, director of the Michigan Department of Community Health.</p> <p>PETE: And I'm Col. Peter Munoz, director of the Michigan State Police.</p> <p>JANET: It is exciting to see so many communities across our state host Town Hall meetings as we work to prevent and reduce underage drinking.</p> <p>PETE: Alcohol is the number one drug used by our youth.</p> <p>JANET: 69% of youth report they have had at least one alcoholic drink in one or more days during their lifetime. 100% of all alcohol consumed by minors came from an adult.</p> <p>PETE: Michigan State Police troopers and law enforcement agencies across the state vigorously enforce alcohol laws, including those that address underage drinking. But we can't do it alone.</p> <p>JANET: Everyone can refuse to supply alcohol to underage youth in their home or on their property. Support local law enforcement efforts, report underage drinking parties, and store alcohol out of the reach of youth.</p> <p>PETE: I applaud your participation in today's Town Hall meeting. Strong partnerships are vital for reducing underage drinking.</p> <p>JANET: Thank you for coming together to make a difference.</p> Department of Community Health Director Janet Olszewski and Michigan State Police Director Colonel Peter Munoz urge adults in Michigan to join the fight against underage drinking.
