Enbridge Oil Spill
On July 26, 2010, Enbridge Energy Partners, LLP (Enbridge) reported a break of their oil pipeline near the city of Marshall in Calhoun County, Michigan. The break resulted in the spill of more than one million gallons of crude oil into Talmadge Creek and the Kalamazoo River. The Michigan Department of Community (MDCH) joined local, federal and other State of Michigan agencies in a coordinated response to this environmental and public health emergency.
MDCH continues to provide support to the Calhoun County Public Health Department, The Kalamazoo County Health and Community Services Department, the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) to protect public health as the cleanup of the remaining oil in the Kalamazoo River continues.
